STORY STARTER
Write a story that ends with the line, 'Amidst the chaos, I fade away peacefully in your arms.'
Note that this character doesn’t necessarily have to be dying.
Always You
The Earth shakes beneath my feet.
The sky, is a gloriously sickening shade of red.
The shrill screams of men, women and children around me flood my ears blurring together until they muffle.
Morphing into an agonizing ringing that stabs the soft spots of my temples; my head spins.
Time slows down.
I turn on my feet; desperately scanning the crowds.
A man bumps into my side, hard, turning me sharply.
I almost fall over.
There she is.
I spot her through the myriads.
The world resumes.
I run, my hand reaching for her; hers reaches back.
Our fingers brush, desperate for each other—
The ground disappears from under my feet with a deafening crash.
I scream without sound as I fall into the pitch black Earth.
My hands painfully outstretched to the quickly fading view of her mirrored position above.
The darkness envelopes me-
“Adam?! Adam wake up!”
My eyes snap open as wide as they can. A sharp gasping breath to force my lungs into action.
I sit bolt upright as my pupils dilate; fighting with the need to see anything but the night.
I rub the blurr from my eyes.
My cheeks are wet.
I blink few times, my vision finally clearing.
“It was just a dream, Love. You’re ok I’m right here.”
Her warm, soft hand rubs up and down my arm; clammy from the cold sweat.
It’s her.
Thank God it’s her.
I wrap her in my arms, holding her as close as possible. As if trying to obsorb her into my own skin.
My face is buried in her hair as I take in the familiar comforting scent.
She’s worried, I can tell.
“Are you ok? You were tossing and turning and then... then you were crying in your sleep…”
She asks gently.
“I’m fine.”
I whisper into her hair as I lay back down with my entire universe in my arms.
“I hope to God the world never ends… but if it has too—“
I pull her closer. An undeniable shake to my body and my voice.
“Amidst all of the chaos… let me fade away peacefully in your arms.”
