Leaving

Write about a character leaving something, or someone, they love.

Until Death Do Us Part.

I wore a dress of shimmering lace, irradiated in the luminous moonlight.

Its ivory beams paved our path and guided our steps, like a distant spotlight.

His hands were soft and held the warmth only those with a beating heart could bear. His touch familiar, as his arms fastened around my waist, holding me close enough to whisper tearful declarations in my ear. Unspoken vows at the mercy of stolen time— proclaimed at a headstone under the guise of an altar.

We swayed to the beat of our hearts, shadow and flame.

Hard and soft. Loud and quiet.

Life and death.

The boarders of mortality made it so we couldn’t be any further from each other, but tonight we were one.

Tonight death allowed us the mercy of a last dance. The turned soil plush against our bare feet. Cool and soft as a blanket.

That’s all it was after all— a blanket to keep the body buried beneath it warm.

My body.

And a dance to keep the souls above it intertwined forevermore.

My soul and his, until death do us part.
