POEM STARTER
Mysteries of the Night
Whether something natural and beautiful like the stars, or something more sinister, write a poem that focuses on things that are most prominent at night.
Afraid of the dark
i wish to be a child again,
afraid of the dark,
what lurks in my closet?
what lives under my bed?
when the vast of night covers the horizon,
and my blanket covers my head,
i wish to be a child again,
afraid of the dark,
ive grown with skeletons as friends,
ive grown with ghosts for mistakes,
ive grown with monsters of worry,
Oh how I wish to be a child again,
simply afraid of the dark,
when the world is still,
no sound, no chaos,
the mind creeps beneath my bed,
pulls at my hair and tugs at my leg,
i wish to be a child again,
afraid of the dark,
when there is nothing left of the day,
but I am left in disarray,
hauntings of my past jump from the shadows,
scaring my slumber away,
oh god i wish to be a child again,
afraid of the dark,
snippets of light escape my window,
a show on my ceiling weighs down my eyes,
anchors my pillow,
and silence the cries,
at last, im a child again,
afraid of the dark,
until the sun peeks its head in my doorway,
i’ll blurr the lines
between night and day.
