Before she could even start the car she had to find the perfect playlist, and the perfect playlist was entirely dependent on what mode she was in that day. On happy days it was something poppy, sing-a-long or a classic like Bette Davis Eyes… on a moody day it was country or slow soul, no matter the feeling it was always something she could sing to… what was the point of getting in the car of it wasn’t for a private car concert anyway?

Today felt like an upbeat kind of day, this morning she’d gotten some good news about a new job and she felt optimistic, excited and it was the perfect weather for a windows down, volume way up kind of drive.

She started the car, pressed play and drove down the street… this was one of her favourite songs, she turned the volume up, and performed for her imaginary audience. Talking the wheel, singing as loud of she could, dancing in the car - she would never sing in front of people in real life, no way, never! But in the car, she was a star! She didn’t care who saw her, the freedom of letting it all go, dropping the mask of everyday life and belting out the words to her favourite song made her feel alive.
