POEM STARTER

Write a series of five Haiku set at the same event, exploring the five senses: sight, smell, sound, touch, taste.

A Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines that generally do not rhyme, with a syllabic structure of 5-7-5.

Senses

I stand on the edge,

Of glimmering waters,

Children play in the Golden sand.

I close my eyes and,

Take in the salty sea water,

As well as the smell,

Of children’s dropped treats.

The laughter of people rings through my ears,

The crashing of waves sounds from beyond,

All while the cries of seagulls is heard,

From the vast skyline.

A cool breeze runs through my hair,

I feel the warm sand beneath my tired feet,

Just as the scorching sun beats down relentlessly.

The beaches crisp air,

Floats into my mouth,

Leaving me with the taste of the beaches, carefree musings.
