POEM STARTER
Write a poem that could be sung as a lullaby.
You could set it to the tune of an existing lullaby, or think up your own rhythm. Remember that lullabies are for children, and are ususally meant to be calming.
Sailing Blues
I know you didn’t want to
become one of them…
But life is so messy,
so heavy—
all in your hands.
You’re caught in the present,
in sorrow and distress…
Afraid that the things
that you love
might slip through your hands.
And I know,
you are trying your best.
But they judge you…
in every single way.
Even if the ocean is true,
you are stuck in your sailing blues.
Can you see what I see in your eyes?
Dear friend…
let me see through your light,
let me see you through yourself.
You’re not giving up—
in our brightest dreams.
Even if the ocean is true,
we’ll sail past the sailing blues.
Close your eyes—our hope still survives.
