The Dreadful Silence
Write a poem that could have this as its title or main theme.
The Dreadful Silence
Years ago we promised one another our hearts,
Through the years, it is clear, that we’ve drifted apart.
Instead of hugs and kisses, I’m greeted with contempt,
You bark your orders at me, all will to try is spent.
I listen to your words but respond with dreadful silence,
Absence of affection leaving wounds deeper than violence.
Every now and then I see a glimmer of the past,
It gives me hope that maybe, the two of us will last.
When the girls are less dependent, and we can find more time,
For civil conversation over a glass of wine.
But for now we’ll talk with frostiness, no need to say a word,
The silence speaking volumes in the void that is unheard.
