POEM STARTER
Inspired by Reagan Stanton
Write a poem about decay.
Normally associated with death and disease, decay is also vital in nature for the next generation of life. What perspective will you take?
The Decaying
What is decaying?
You tell me
When I look at the pieces of a broken country
Singing their anthem sarcastically
Waving their flag like a mockery
Flinging their history books from the shelf
A populace that seems to hate itself.
The key to healing is communication
But the media’s preaching self-deprivation
So instead of wielding the tools of fixation
The nation succumbs to persistent damnation.
The word on the street is always they’re “leaving”
But if running is default, what’s left for achieving?
All is hopeless, if that’s what you’re perceiving
You lose fifty percent if you’re not believing.
Don’t give up, go down on action
You have speak up if you want to gain traction
Fight for your rights, if you want interaction
Pointing out wrongs is a pointless reaction.
So, take a stand!
Spread the love, lend a hand
Turn dystopia into the promised land
A movement of change doesn’t always start grand
All it takes is one act, destined to expand.
Together, we can reverse the decaying.
I loved this, it’s very powerful and moving , the world needs to hear this right now. I really enjoyed the last 2 versus/stanzas (sorry if lingo is wrong)
I’m sorry… Hamilton who?! Preach! I loved this poem! Hopefully you could give some feedback on some of my writing as well. I’m new to this app and loving everyone’s abilities but not many people are reading my stuff so I don’t know what to fix. I’d love to hear your input!
You have a charming writing style. I love the message to keep hoping for a broken country. It’s so sad when people lose hope in their homeland, but just because they refuse to see the light doesn’t mean it’s not there. I like the line “waving their flag like a mockery.” And your statement that, “a movement of change doesn’t always start grand,” is so true and inspiring.
