Dreams Taken Flight

She never expected to return to her parents’ home, but she realized by now that the universe had been going out of its way to crush every lingering hope from her childhood she ever dared to have.

She once dreamed of going places when she was younger. She once dreamed of finding an apartment in the city and become one of the largest stars the world has ever seen.

Instead, she was found starving at a train station by a man who, looking back on it now, never cared for her. But back then, she saw him as her savior, and had the audacity to believe he actually loved her.

And she thought she was always so much smarter than the fool he made her out to be.

That when she had his child that they were all going to live as a happy, and stable, family together.

Now her child was dead. The father was gone, however, he was just as dead to her too.

Now she was in front of her parents’ home with nothing but black clothing that only restricted her more, and cage with two doves she bought with the remaining amount of money she had.

Before she approached the porch, she turned around. Nothing. There was nothing left for her out there. And so she lifted the top of the cage, and all that ever truly belonged to her flew away.

Goodbye, dear daughter.

Goodbye, dreams.
