POEM STARTER

Submitted by SmileyGuitar

Write a poem that starts in a cheerful, bright mood, but then reveals underlying anger or bitterness.

The Queen Contemplates Her Situation

Every day I awake to sunshine and soft breezes

Lemon blueberry scones

Poached eggs

Strong tea

I dress in fine silks

Soft slippers

White gloves, a new pair daily

Hats for every day of the week

But I never get to enjoy these things

I’m rushed off to meetings

Weddings, baptisms, funerals

From 6 am to midnight

I have things to do

Oh for the life of a peasant

My breakfasts would be gruel

My dresses of scratchy wool

My feet likely bare

But I’d be free
