Write a poem that starts in a cheerful, bright mood, but then reveals underlying anger or bitterness.

All But a Puppet Show

We sat under the evening lights

Laughing, talking, secrets galore

You said we would soar to great heights

And I hate myself for not asking more

You approached me with a careful mask

Sympathy for my scraped knee

You said helping me was a easy task

And invited me for a cup of tea

But then

Cold and harsh you then became

College welcomed me, not you

And then you never were the same

I knew my life wasn’t meant for two

Then I was a bloodied rose

The truth all came shocking clear

It was all but a puppet show

And you never ever came near
