Twisted Up In The Shadows
I get twisted up in crazy things all the time.
Crazy weather, crazy people, crazy visions
Today was hot like I was trapped in a sandy desert
I face the blistering sun and refuse to look behind me
I now know what could happen if I glance back
We used to play a game as young children
It was called Statue.
All the children would move only when the security guard wasnt looking
When the security guard turned around everything would freeze as if they didnt have the power to move
I thought that this could only happen in a game
It was a windy day when I found it out
The trees were being shook violently
And the shadows danced accordingly
…until they didn’t
I could have almost been convinced that it was just my own hair flying in my face
Blocking my view
But I knew it wasn’t.
There were people in the trees.
But no one would be stupid enough to be out in the trees in this weather- only me.
With the threat of a twister, there were no kids climbing trees
And that is still true, there were no kids climbing the trees
They were only lurking in their shadows.
I wanted to scream when I saw them
Their demonic dancing hiding among the shadows
Cast by bodies that didnt actually exist
Are they invisible children with an unnatural ability to not be seen, only cast shadows?
Or are they shadows themselves with no other form?
I dont have the courage to ask them
Or even watch them
But against my will I now see them everywhere, as if they gave up hiding and instead chose to torment only me.
And who would believe me?
The crazy gurl chasing shadows during a twister
