STORY STARTER

Your friend tells you they always keep a souvenir from every date they’ve been on. You think that’s sweet, until...

Stolen Souvenir

"Awh! That’s so cute!" I smile.

"Yeah," Valencia chuckles.

"You go on dates often then?" Ade asks, sharpening his sword.

His jaw is clenched and as the conversation progressed, he sharpened it quicker — more aggressively. And he claims he doesn’t like Val like that. Right.

Valencia shrugs. "As often as I do."

Ade blinks and looks at her. "What does that even mean?"

She smiles slyly. "Why?"

I stifle a giggle. She knows what she’s doing to him.

"Nothing, nothing," he looks back at his sword. He sets it down on Val’s table. He pauses. "You know," he glances at Val, "I never would have pegged you as someone to do something so.. sweet." Ade leans against the wall with crossed arms.

I frown slightly and look at Val. "Actually.. Yeah. He does have a point."

She hesistates.

"Valencia," I look at her. "What have you been taking?"

She shrugs and mutters something under her breath, slurring her words.

"What?"

She mutters it a bit louder, but her words are still heavily slurred.

"Valencia," Ade presses.

She groans. "I’ve been stealing some of their stuff, okay?"

Ade bursts out laughing. "I knew you were too mean to do anything sweet!"

"Hey!" She frowns and throat a candle at him.

The man in gold armour dodges it quickly, still laughing.

I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose.

At least my guard isn’t sharpening his sword as if he’s going to go slay some heads off anymore.
