Dear journal,

The adults are taking shifts watching us sleep 

Think well steal rations or sneak to the garden

It's their fault for depriving us of food

1 meal a day 

They sneak food out as well

At least we’re safe 

5 days until my birthday 

6 days 

I would have been on the bus to the bomb shelter with some of the other legal adults

But I’m 17 and safe

17 and already past the Kyper belt

17 and sharing a room with 7 year olds 

With limited space I’m lucky not to be in the nursery 

My sleep is to little already

I can still feel the explosion 

And the horrendous snores of my bunk mate

Dear jornal,

The list is here

I feel elation and dread

Will friends or enemies be lost?

I skip to the 17 and 18 year old columns as the adults continue to pass out the sheets

There are only 11 in the 17 column that should have been on the ship

Nearly 100 in the 18 and that's only the ones supposed to be on our ship

I start with the 17 collum to start with good news but its not

1.Silva Orahlana- Not always kind to me but we had limited interaction

7.Fran Nonna – I had a crush on him in 3rd grade but that's just because everyone did at least until he got into a flying car crash and he was always in pain. This, for him, is what he would have wanted

10.Else Droniak- My roommate I remember her going back for something I didn't know her well but I will miss her

 Those are the names that stand out, those are the ones I knew 

all others are foggy memories

I skim the 18 column none I knew

I do make sure to double check it thought to make sure my best friend who turned 18 in August is on board

I need to write to remember them

The funeral is tomorrow
