POEM STARTER

Write an elegy about the death of something other than a person.

An elegy is a sad poem, traditionally expressing sorrow for someone who has passed away.

This is Why it Had to Die

Desintegrating, piece by piece.

Layer by layer.

Mood switching.

Code switching.

Forging new patterns.

Ones that-- before felt out of line.

A circus in my mind quiets down.

Seeing clearly, the words seep through,

Puncturing the paper.

**"This is why it had to die."**

**Underestimated.**

**Disempowered.**

**Treated delicately.**

**Like a flower.**

I don't mind, but now I rise.

On the pedestal

Watching everything that was once against me

Marvel by my side.

Excited for my reign, they let go of control.

I'll take them home.

Mourning is never easy.

With me by your side though, it'll feel

Nice and breezy.

Can't wait for the ride, you know what to do.

The light came on and it chose you.
