STORY STARTER

Leaving

Write about a character leaving something, or someone, they love.

Leaving

Sunset is slowly approaching the olive green hill,

a distant rainbow of life and thrill.

How exquisite the simplicity of daylight,

But the mystery of colour remains an unseen delight.

Swiftly sunset spirals into present,

Scarlet! Salmon! Saffron! colours launch like a stampede of wildebeests.

Rolling down the hill, colours colliding in a kaleidoscopic mania,

overwhelming yet freeing, exciting yet terrifying.

The olive green hill slowly fades into an ebony abyss,

excitement is replaced with stillness, naivety replaced with understanding.

Puddles pool at the bottom of the hill, drowning in gloomy nostalgia

Reality replaces mystery, darkness replaces excitement.

Blind, climbing the hill, falling, frantic, drowning,

mud coats the nails, midnight encapsulates.

Until a street lamp guides the frantic away from fright,

towards a new hill, new rainbows and opportunities ignite.
