Use this stanza as either part of, or inspiration for a poem.

What The Rain Could Not Wash Away

Clouds cover the skies, rain pulls at your eyes,

but nothing hurts as much as little words turned lies.

Soft promises break like waves on the shore,

each echo reminding you what love was before.

The silence that follows is sharp as a blade,

carving the truth from the trust that you gave.

You held on to whispers, believed every sound,

but now even shadows don’t stick around.

So let the rain fall, let it drown out the screams.

Some hearts are too fragile to carry old dreams.
