We were sitting on the couch

When my mom got the call

He wanted to meet me

But I didn’t know him at all

So we drove to his house

And I began to stand

I start to walk up

Holding moms hand

That moment took forever

Looking at his face

His hand over his chest

Breathing was all over the place

I finally know where my skin came from

I can finally accept my race

Then he got a letter

He was being called to court

He yelled at the man

Because HE couldn’t pay his child support

And that was the last time I saw him

He never answered the phone

He could be in jail right now

Or perfectly safe at home
