POEM STARTER
Write a poem that has a whimsical mood.
The word whimsical is defined as being playfully fanciful, especially in an appealing way. What kind of language would you use to portray this?
Whimsical Whirl
A dandelion dream took flight at noon,
On a breeze that giggled with a silver spoon.
The clouds wore hats and sipped on tea,
While squirrels debated philosophy.
A clock in the meadow ticked in rhyme,
Counting not seconds but jellybean time.
A duck in boots played mandolin tunes,
To owls that danced with helium balloons.
The flowers all hummed in polka-dot tones,
And mushrooms juggled skipping stones.
A cat on a tricycle chased a kite,
That scribbled poems in loops of light.
The sun wore shades and cracked a grin,
As moon peeked out with a playful spin.
And I just laughed ‘til my socks flew high,
To ride on a swing made of raspberry pie.
So if you should find the world too grim,
Just skip through the puddles at the edge of whim.
There’s magic in nonsense and joy in the odd—
Where reason takes tea with a unicorn god.
