POEM STARTER
Submitted by Maranda Quinn
Write a story or poem which could be titled ‘Diamond in the Rough’.
What themes might this phrase bring to mind?
Yours, XO
They say that pressure turns coal into diamonds
If that’s true then why’d you tell me to leave
Didn’t you know I’d go out and buy us a boat
Sail it using your name
So come back to me, my precious lover
Don’t let your heart stop your throat from calling my name
Let me be your diamond in the rough
These green eyes won’t ever appear the same
For whatever your heart desires I will give it to you
We’ll sail around the ocean
until the world questions what we’re up to
Tell me what kind of thoughts run through your head
Are they argumentative or crazy at best
Because I’d like to know, it’s kind of sort of a test
But if I pass it please let me treasure you so that I may rest
