COMPETITION PROMPT
Write a poem about an old tree and the secrets it holds.
Bark As Old As Time
Sometimes, maybe once in a hundred years,
I remember how it was, floating through space and spheres.
Time was just born, barely an hour,
We were just particles, no tree nor flower.
Sometimes, maybe once in a decade,
I remember a girl sitting under my shade.
One Day playing, one day dreaming,
One day drawing, one day screaming.
Humanity was just born, just a few years,
And yet, they celebrated with shouts and cheers.
But she sat there, under my crown,
Watching humans till the sun goes down.
Sometimes, every time my leaves fall,
I remember a shadow, fast and tall.
He hid a paper, a note in my bark,
But when I looked he was gone in the dark.
Sometimes, every time the snow falls down,
I remember kids playing in a park, in a town.
I remember at night, how I hear bells ringing,
Reindeers flying while choirs are singing.
Sometimes, every time new Green awakes,
I remember lovers, cuddling on a blanket in their breaks.
I try to smile, but only move in the breeze,
My leaves just swish when he falls on his knees.
Sometimes, more than once in a year,
I remember the crashing, the fire, the fear.
The same humans, once laughing, once dancing,
Killing my brothers without glancing
And I can’t move, can’t scream, can’t shout,
when fire takes me now no doubt.
Never have I thought it would end this way,
The same humans who laugh and play,
Taking me away.
