No Tragic Heroes

"The people love a good tragedy you know? Especially tragedies that involve heroes."

Can in frown at the emphasis of the final word, "what are you trying to say?"

"I'm saying that your ending will not be a good one?"

"It will!" Cain snapped at the masked man, "my ending will be a...a happy one."

Lumiere sighed, disappointing dripping his tone heavily as he leaned back on the branch. "You are not a very good hero."

"Excuse me?" Cain seethed, fingers itching to drag the man down and let him fall.

"See my dear hero, Heroes must be willing to sacrifice. Loved ones, future, themselves, they need to sacrifice everything for others."

"And who decided that?"

Lumiere went silent, clearly not expecting such a question. After a second he spoke up again, "the universe did."

Cain barked out a laugh, bitter as he felt. He has been fighting against the universe since birth. No one could care as less as he did when it came to the laws of the universe.

He jutted his chin out, exuding pride from his very being.

"Well, I guess I'll have to be the first selfish hero."

Lumiere paused, muttering "selfish hero" to himself multiple times. Cain had stood up by then, preparing to attempt brawling the masked man when he burst into laughter. It was uncontrollable and unhinged, his voice booming like they were deep in a cave.

Cain watched, almost mesmerized as the Lumiere threw his head back further. It was his first time seeing the bastard express such an emotion. He couldn't help the arrogant smile that made way to his face, heart beating slightly louder.

"Oh Cain," Lumiere finally calmed down. He looked over at the arrogant man, knowing his sparkling eyes would go unseen. "I truly have never met anyone like you before!"

Cain rolled his eyes, sitting back down again.

"You should be grateful for that, you'll never meet any other again."
