One day Huo Linghun and Xiao Xin tried flying kites. Their kites were painted like dragons and had long dragon tails. They watched as the dragon kites swooped and hovered high above them.

"How do they fly?" Xiao Xin asked.

"They ride on the wind," Huo Linghun answered.

"Dragons had wings," Xiao Xin said. "They could fly."

"That's right."

"If we had wings I would ride on your back and you could fly us around."

"Oh?" Huo Linghun said with amusement. "Why would you not fly yourself around?"

"I'm afraid of being so high up," Xiao Xin replied.

"If I flew you around you would still be very high up," Huo Linghin pointed out.

"I feel better when I'm with you," Xiao Xin said.

It was such a simple answer but it meant so much. Huo Linghun forgot to watch the kites and they crashed into each other. They went around and around as they spiraled back to the ground. Huo Linghun kneeled down and tried to pull them apart but he couldn't- the strings were too knotted and twisted. "They're hopelessly tangled together," he said dejectedly. "We'll never be able to separate them.

Suddenly Xiao Xin was upon him, his arm wrapped around him, his lips against his. "Just like us," Xiao Xin said. Their tails intertwined much like the kite strings as they kissed in the soft grass of the field, and Huo Linghun's disappointment about the kites instantly melted away into a deep happiness.
