Leaving
Write about a character leaving something, or someone, they love.
Nothing holding her
“Please, please. I need you.”
“Stop. Right now. You know I have to go. Nothing is holding me here anymore! I have no ties, Adam!”
“YOU HAVE ME!” I scream at her. She covers her ears and shakes her head, tears streaming down her face.
“I don’t love you anymore. You aren’t worth this cycle of nothingness my family has been in my entire damn life! It isn’t fair!” she breathes heavily, her whole body moving. “If you love me, you’ll let me go. Please, Adam. Let me go.”
I choke out a sob, unable to get my mouth to form a sound, my brain unable to form a thought. “Don’t leave me, Sierra. I can’t do life without you. I need you. I NEED YOU!”
She shakes her head. “You don’t need me. You never needed me. You’ll be fine on your own, Adam. I can’t help you and you can’t help me.” she shakes her head again before grabbing her bags. “It’s over. Lose my number.”
She takes a step, but I grab her arm before she can take another. She slowly turns around, a look of disgust creeping onto her face. “I can’t just let you go. I love you! Do you hear me? I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT YOU!”
“LET GO!” she screams in my face, and I feel the wetness on my cheeks as she looks into my eyes with hers. “Don’t you get it? You aren’t worth it. I’m leaving. I’m not coming back. You. Aren’t. Worth. It.” she rights herself again before walking to the front door and opening it. “Goodbye, Adam. Find someone who will love you better than I ever did.”
She shuts the door, and I fall to my knees. Shudders and sobs wrack my body, my head spins.
I want to die.
I want to die.
There’s nothing beautiful about this world without her. And I wasn’t enough. I will never be enough.
Goodbye, Sierra. I will always love you. Even if I am never enough.
