A girl walks a cross a frozen lake in hopes of finding something or someone...
The Yellow Boat
A motion of tying a scarf ‘round her neck.
She straps on her snow shoes,
Pulls on her puffer vest, the color blue,
The ceasing of the falling of snow is her cue.
She smiles at the winter wonderland before her.
She treads along the icy grounds,
Past the frozen trees and small mounds.
Searching for anything magical to be found.
Soon enough, she spots a small, yellow boat.
It’s bow is lodged in the ice of the lake ahead,
She trudges through the deep snow, with dread.
With each step, her legs feel more like lead.
Nearing the icy shore, she studies the ice.
Only the edges had frozen, but she has doubt.
Would it crack? What if no one was in the boat, or about?
She was all alone, and she dared to shout.
There was no response, lest the wind’s whistle count.
So she slid onto the ice; slowly, with care.
Nearing the boat, she squinted from the sun’s sudden glare.
Reaching out, to grasp the boat, but touching air.
A loud splinter, and she falls through the ice.
Swimming and pushing, she tries to go up-
Seeing a figure, she reaches out-
She sees only darkness. The figure was her imagination.
She is truly alone, hopeless.
But she feels herself go weightless, and the warmth of peace fills her before black darkness swells in her mind…
