Submitted by Quill To Page
Write a short story or poem that starts with a letter.
It can be a death threat or a love letter, a mission or a murder. It could be any letter, but make it integral to the story.
Forgotten Oaths Pt.1
~
For context, this is a letter from the main character to her partner. The main characters name is Alora, and his is Atlas. Their world is divided, the North and South. They both have three royal houses, Alora and Atlas being two of them. The North can acsess magic, but the south is scared of it and avoids it. When Alora was still a baby, she was taken and given to a southern royal bloodline. Alora find Atlas undercover, and demands he take her to the north to find out if she really isnāt her fathers daughter. They do, but in the midst of this war breaks out between the already tense North and South. The next part is the end of that war. The part after this is the actual story after the letter. I couldnāt fit it all in one. I know itās confusing.

I am writing this in the hopes that youāll never see this. I heard that some of my soldiers do this before big battles. They write letters to their family in case something happens. Donāt worry, I wrote one to my siblings to. I couldnāt forget them if I tried.Ā
So, in the event that I am no longer around, Iām assuming I followed through with my plan. If I didnāt, and Iām still alive, shame on you for going through my things. Close this letter and get the hell out of my room. I probably didnāt let you in here anyway.Ā
I donāt even know how to begin. There is so much I want to tell you, and so little words to explain how feel. I know the last time we talked was an arguement. A stupid, silly little fight about wether I was going to go back to my homeland. You said you felt like I was drifting, as if I didnāt really love you.Ā
I hope you know this isnāt true. I will love you, with my whole heart, forever. When I first met you, I was alone. I lived in a world where friends will undermine you to get what they want. You showed me that it was ok to trust, that not everyone was out for my throne. You were my first real friend.Ā
Of course, when you told me that I wasnāt of southern blood, I wanted to hate you. I wanted to ignore you and go on living my life the way it was. And then I met one of your queens. We shared an eerie resemblence. I thought nothing of it at first, until she told me the story of her dead child.Ā
According to her, her second born didnāt make it. To her, the doctor pronounced me dead, and she never saw me again. Thatās because my king took me.Ā
He took me from my home, and my family. Because of him, I grew up without magic. But because of you, I discovered it. You opened doors for me I didnāt know were there. And for that, I will always be in debt to you.Ā
You are the love of my life, and I canāt imagine spending it without you. So, Iām glad it had to be me. Iām glad that I was the one to die, so you could live on with your family. They would break apart without you.Ā
So go. Live your life, and make it worth it. Donāt let me have died for nothing. And tell my mother I love her. Keep my siblings safe. I know they will be ok eventually. They were raised the same as I was.Ā
Iām not going to make this much longer, as I know how much you hate reading. I hope you know, that even if I am gone, I will never be far. I love you, with my whole being. No matter what happened, or what was said, nothing with changeĀ that. You are mine, and I am yours, for enternity.Ā
Love, Dreamer
