WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a difficult conversation between two characters without using any dialogue tags.
Dialogue tags describe the speech - 'he whispered', 'she murmered', 'they said' etc. Removing these indicators will encourage you to make the dialogue speak for itself, instead of relying on tags to describe and clarify the intent behind the words.
The drive
As her entire world shattered infront of her eyes all she could do is sit in his car and stare.. where exactly? - She had no idea. As the constant denies blurted out his mouth trying to explain that he didn’t cheat. She could only sit there and stare as the radio was still blasting deafeningly loud music. Soon after the boy realised she wasn’t buying his excuses he started to disclose apologies. He wasn’t sure why he had done it - perhaps a moment of uncertainty in their relationship or possibly just a moment of weakness - nontheless she wasn’t listening and seemed too lost in her thoughts to form a proper reply. She felt envious about lots of people - admittedly she currently felt envy towards every person who either hadn’t met her - now ex boyfriend - but who could blame her? Her hand now reaching out towards the radio turning it up all the way, tuning out the boy’s voice. He felt helpless, not knowing how to explain himself, feeling terrible about what he had done. By now he felt hopeless that she was still listening so he just drove.
