Waking Up
It started as all bad days do in the morning after a blacked out night. What I didn’t expect is the intensity of the pounding in the place I once called a head. My mouth felt dry, I felt dry; can someone become a mummy while still alive? What time was it?
As I slide my hand across the bed to find my phone, I find a hard surface instead, one that shouldn’t be in the way. My bed wasn’t against the wall, nor did I remember the wall having heat to it.
Spreading my fingers to get a better sense of what this was, I hear a chuckle come from said wall. Squeezing closed my already shut eyes I send a silent “please” to the universe. Let this hangover be the worst decision of my night. Taking a deep breath in to summon the courage I lost somewhere at the bar last night. I open one eye and move my head slightly to the right.
I come face to face with a stranger, one I do not remember meeting. Now fully opening both eyes to better assess this stranger, I notice he’s shirtless. I try to look further down to see if he’s in his full birthday suit but it requires me to lift my head. This automatically makes the pounding into a jackhammer, causing a verbal “ugh” to slip my mouth.
Grabbing my head with both my hands to possibly contain or subside the construction working happening in my head; I hear shirtless chuckle again. “Did you want me to get you Advil and water for that?”.
I look over to see he hasn’t opened his eyes, but has a big smirk on his stupid shirtless face. Was he not as hungover, or was he being funny? And to go through my personal things; was it the shirtlessness that made him confident? “No, I can get it myself thank you very much”.
Another stupid chuckle “Suit yourself, I was trying to be nice since you seem to be hurting. They’re in the bathroom cabinet to your left. Get me some while you're up.”
Bathroom to my left? No, my bathroom was near the living room, outside my bedroom. That’s when I jolted up to find myself not in my room. I was in a room I had never seen before, with a man I didn’t remember meeting. I look around to find a window, a window with snow. I didn’t live in a state where it snowed…
