The tribe knew the end was coming. Every day for a month, crows gathered at the burying grounds at sunset. Medicine man said it was a warning.

The people did not know what to do. They had heard from other voices that the white death was sweeping toward them. The white men came with smiles and trade but left death in their wake.

After it was over, the crows visited other grounds, weary of such tragedy but compelled to continue.
