POEM STARTER

I Used to Know Myself
So sure I could be,
Of the man that I love.
How much joy he brings me,
How much support he extends.
His heart is bigger than
The distance from this very point
To the Milky Way’s borders.
His eyes shine brighter than the hottest star
And life itself would not be possible
If not for the man
That I love.
And now, in this most uncertain of times,
He cannot find his way back to me.
Like raw garlic,
Plucked from the leeched soil.
The world burns
Those who chop it
Open the floodgates to the soul.
Where is my hero?
My heart is hostage
The villain is winning.
In his sadistic pleasure
I search for the light
That illuminates the darkness
That heats from within the core
That fuels
My life.
And yet
Through all that is feared and avoided
The servant of mischief and misfortune
Preys on my remaining sanctity.
The innocence,
His favourite morsel.
He savours it
Washing it away with the floodwaters.
My heart no longer
The levee.
The barrier is gone.
And like locusts
He feeds to no end.
He chomps, chews,
Chomps, chews
Chews, Chomps.
Chews, Chomps.
He feasts on my torture
Smiling with the fangs he used
To pierce my unsuspecting fort.
The soldiers try their very best
But in the end
He is presumed the same as his ancestors.
Dead.
I weep and mourn
Wailing in the middle of the night
For Gabriel to have undeserving mercy.
The sound so unsettling
Only those who recognize the frequency of the screech
Their ears assaulted.
How melancholy days turn to nights
And no sun rises.
For he is gone.
And while the other looks at him
Unrecognizable
Confused and dazed he panics for the touch
For the sense of the unsensible
For he could not fathom
That we all look the same in the dark.
