WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a fast-paced scene that takes place during a rush hour.
There doesn't need to be a dramatic plot, but think about how you can create and maintain a busy and rushed feeling in a short story.
The flight
There is a muffled voice coming from downstairs calling out my name. I was wondering why there was raising voices when I was supossed to be in the middle of a forest---alone. Minutes later, my door is swung open, snapping me back from the beautiful place I was wandering in. Instantly, the soothing birdcalls are replaced by a snarled, deep tone.
"You're still asleep!?" my father's angry voice is followed by heavy angry footsteps in my direction. Next thing I'm aware of is that my bed sheet is pulled away from me, and some calloused hands are shaking me awake.
"You're impossible, I told you that the flight is at 6!"
I hastily sit straight, grabbing my phone and checking the time.
5:15 a.m.
"I"m so sorry, I was up late." I mumble, but he doesn't respond. He's already dragging out his suitcase in a rush.
Quickly I make my way to mine. It was already lying open on the floor. Knowing myself, I've prepared all my things before I sleep to avoid any tardiness. I zip it fastly, hold my white dress and wear it on top of my pajamas.
Barefoot, I descend the stairs while making sure to avoid looking at the mirror hanging along the staircase and wasting more time fixing my hair.
"Hurry or I'll leave you here."
My father is already starting the engine, leaving the car trunk open for me. I wear my slippers, stumbling and slipping one slipper in my haste. As if I needed more setbacks.
Miraculously, I managed to gain the passenger seat within a minute. I let go of a sigh in relief despite my father's nagging.
"Relax, Dad. I'm sure we're going to catch the flight."
We didn't. The next hour was another tirade at the aeroport.
