WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a fast-paced scene that takes place during a rush hour.

There doesn't need to be a dramatic plot, but think about how you can create and maintain a busy and rushed feeling in a short story.

Rush Hour

It was rush our. I was in the subway. New York City. I had slept in past my alarm and I was not having a good morning. The weekend left me rotting in the couch till midnight. Then the first gun shot sounded.

I ducked down and nearly lost an arm due to the train zipping by at a rapid speed. Shiite and screams filled the room. Pepole ran around chaotically as sirens sounded above.

I shoved my way through the crowds of people and felt what seemed like a rock jam into my ankle but what was really a gun. I ran from it as to escape the possibility of being arrested.

I ran into a corner and felt something jab into my arm. I looked down at the bleeding piece of smoldering hot metal dig into my arm.

Fire erupted from the crashed subway train and sparks flew every which way, some landing in my bear skin.

I leaped up and pulled the metal from my arm in once quick yank. My eyes danced across the room, my mind full of adrenaline.

I bolted forward up the stairs and ran right into a cop. His stern face sending a wave of horror into my head. I stepped backwards and fell down the stairs.

With each breath I felt the fire slicing into my skin and the darkness fading into the scene. The last of the lights flickered of and I was left in complete silence and darkness.
