POEM STARTER
Compose a poem centred around the theme of 'the one that got away'.
Got Away
I was thinking
Of love so true
I knew exactly
What I would do
When she would open
Up her door
My knee would drop
And hit the floor.
I would present
Her with a ring
Say she was to me
Everything
And ask her to
Complete my life
And say that she
Would be my wife.
But as I walked
Up to the door
I heard a voice
Louder than before
It shouted at me
Inside my head
And brought to me
O so much dread.
“You are weak
You do annoy
Especially when
You cling and cloy
You make me sick
When you fuss and fawn
I often wish
That you were gone.”
My smile was gone
She opened the door
Then she said
We had nothing more
We’d call it quits
Yes, we were through
She closed the door
And I sighed, “Phew.”
I dodged a bullet
And I was free
I did not end up
On bended knee
Providence saved me
On that day
When I was the one
That got away.
