“‘I think I just met the happiest person in the world.’ That’s what someone just said to me on my walk here. They stopped me to ask directions to the nearest subway station. I gave them the directions and went to keep walking but they noticed my Harvard sweater and talked about how they applied and got waitlisted. I then made a joke that they should check there spam folder. I guess that started the conversation because they did not stop talking and I hate confrontation so I kept taking to and to be honest it was nice to just chat. When I eventually checked the time and realized I was gonna be late we both said quick goodbyes and I walked away and that’s when I heard them say it and I just laughed because I might have been viewed as happy but they didn’t know about my mental health problems or my multiple attempts or that the appointment I was late for was therapy. And at first I thought how easy their life must be that they think everyone is happy. But I realized that maybe they are in the same boat and they were pretending as well. But for those five to ten minutes no matter what else had happened to us, we were both the happiest people in the world.”
