POEM STARTER
Awakening
Write a poem about an awakening - it could be literal or metaphorical.
Awake.
Awake.
The darkness began to swirl all around me
Gathering me in her sweet embrace
Awake.
Where am I?
I couldn’t remember anything
Awake.
Anything at all
I wracked my brain for something to help me remember anything
Awake.
But still there was
Nothing
Awake.
I looked around desperately
Searching for anything that could give me signs
Awake.
There was a light in the distance
It called me
Awake.
It told me to go to it
It told me it could help me
Awake.
The darkness wouldn’t let me go
She tightened her grip
Awake.
But I was determined
The light was going to help me
Awake.
I freed myself from her grasp
Crawling towards my salvation
Awake.
She pulled at me
Clawing my hair and skin
Awake.
Chunks of flesh falling away
As I tried to escape the talons of darkness
Awake.
Agonizing pain
But I persisted still
Awake.
My silent screams heard by no one but her
The light was closer
Awake.
I had reached it
I heard a shriek as she reached for me one last time
Awake.
But I was safe now
As the light surrounded me
Awake.
So did realization
I was finally
Awake.
