You didn’t want me to die. I know that. I’m not foolish enough to blame you for my death. It is inevitable. Some people just have to face their mortality earlier than others.

You look at me with your deep eyes, the ones that always used to get everything out of me with just a look. All the truth, bad and good.

After today, I will never feel the warmth of your gaze again. It breaks my already tired heart.

We have been fighting a war that isnt ours for ages. This carnage was never supposed to land in our hands. It was our parents mess. Not ours. My only regret is that I leave you alone to clean it up.

The volcano of the worlds issues has officially erupted. Its been bubbling over for years. People just argue now. They fight eachother in a never-ending rage. No one has a solution, so everyone has turned to strife.

Now, for the past year, violence is all we know. Everyone has separated, too. Into groups who have different beliefs. Our group fights for peace. Ironic.

You know I wont make it. Your eyes hold minimal hope. I have fought long, alongside you and the rest. You’re mad at me for leaving, yet you hold me close to your heart in my last moments.

Even now, within our own group, I hear the arguing. The yelling between our own people. I can’t even be mad at them.

A wave of peace rolls through me now. Your lips drop to my ear and you whisper to me, “We’re gonna get out of this. You told us once that we will have happy days again. That you would fight for our peace. Im here to tell you the same thing. I wont stop just because you’re gone.” I only respond with a small nod, my eyes dont leave the people ahead, all arguing about what to do next. What to do without me. “You’re death wont be for nothing. I promise, I wont stop trying. Im sorry.”

I immediately recognize the song you hum. The song I used to hum. And amidst the chaos, I fade away peacefully in your arms.
