the brother I never had

Kept me company during the days

When the ones who let me in this world left daily to keep me in it

When the ones I called friends walked out because I was a “mess”

He never judged me

Never treated me differently

Even on the days when I really was

a “mess”

With him all my thoughts and worries are never ridiculed

He doesn’t undermine my accomplishments

I came in this world with him by my side

Surely

I will die with him by my side

He helps me be the better me

A me who knows her worth

A me who doesn’t live on other’s approval

A me that enjoys solitude rather than togetherness

So thank you brother

For sticking by me from the very first moments

Till I draw my last breath .
