WRITING OBSTACLE

Write the climax of a murder mystery story without any reference to the victim or the crime itself.

The climax can be defined as the point in the story with the highest tension and stakes. How will you drive the story without mentioning the crime?

Inconclusive

“Inconclusive.”

The whole lab was silent as the DNA test results came through. Dr. Ramirez extracted the black hair from the machine, being careful not to lose it. She brought the hair up to her eyes and looked at it carefully. That’s when she realized that it was too shiny and too smooth to be a human hair.

It was too fake to be real.

“Mr. Moore,” said Dr. Ramirez, “This isn’t a human hair. This is from a wig.”

Everyone gasped in unison as if it was scripted. All of the scientists, that was. The private investigator stood in the front of the lab, his expression unchanging.

“Well,” Mr. Moore replied with a click of his tounge. “It appears our criminal is traveling incognito.”
