It’s been four years since I have been in Kaso.

It’s exactly how I left it.

Abused citizens, starving citizens.

I inhale the air. Stuffy, as per usual.

This time is different though. I look to my right, Princess Anastasia of Katharos(and now Numix now that she is married to Prince Eiran) is standing here with me in a dark blue cloak. The hood covers her platinum blonde hair and pale skin which is unusual here in Kaso. All the citizens here have darker skin — a lot darker. A person with snow white skin would be most unusual and would attract unwanted attention.

When Anastasia found out that I was from here, she wanted to know more. The bubbly girl was most curious. And I don’t blame her. When I arrived to Numix after escaping Kaso, I could not find anything about my home country. It was nice that I wasn’t constantly reminded, but it felt invalidating knowing that nobody knows about the horrors that me and many others have to go through.

When I had told the Princess of Numix everything, she was horrified. She then made it her duty to put this to an end.

I told her that the only way we are to do that, is to do it from the inside.

So here we are, standing in front of the large palace.

"Are you two done admiring the view or we gonna get a shifty on?" Jrudon comes up behind us.

"Are you coming with us?" Ana asks.

"I’m sorry, Your Highness. But I believe that if the royals find out who I am, I’d be killed on the spot. After all, I am still a citizen in Kaso."

"Well you just wait down at the docks, we’ll be back as soon as we can."

"Yes, Your Highness," he nods, bending down slightly but not too much so nobody sees that he is bending down to someone other than the royal family of Kaso, before walking away.

Anastasia looks at me and smiles widely. "Shall we go inside?"

I nod. "Yes. But first, get rid of that smile. It is an unusual sight to see here."

She frowns at my comment.

"That’s more like it," I pat her back and lead her to the secret entrance to inside the palace.

After a lot of struggle and sneaking around, we make it to the throne room.

My heart is beating out of my chest. Last time I saw them, they were ready to kill me. Now I’m here, with the princess who had just declared war on them.

Princess Athena walks in. My heart stops. I thought she was dead. I must be seeing a ghost. I killed her.

"Your Majesty, you asked to see me-.." she trails off when her eyes lock into mine.

_ "You’re not bad for a village man, you know?"_

_ "Don’t you mean peasant?" I tease._

_ She rolls her eyes with a smile as she pops another berry in her mouth._

_ "I’m kidding. You’re not bad for a royal either."_

_ I watch as she water weaves a large tentacle of water around Jrudon’s throat. He’s my one way ticket out of here. My friend. The only real one I ever had._

_ I grab Jrudon’s dagger which he dropped and throw it right at her chest. _

_ The water falls out of form, dropping Jrudon._

_ She turns around and looks at me with an amount of hurt that breaks me. "Amad-" she chokes out. "I thought we were-.." she falls to the ground._

_ I run over and hold her in my arms. "I’m sorry, ‘thena."_

_ "I thought you loved me," tears stream down her face._

_ Then her eyes turns to glass. I slowly shut her eyes. I lay her down on the now bloody ground before getting up and walking away. _

_ I did love you. But I hated you more._

_ _"Amadi."

I bow down on my knees, my head low. I can feel Anastasia look at me in confusion; I don’t blame her. I had not done this to the other royals. I didn’t even bother to try.

"Your Highness."

She walks pasts me and I stand up, my head still low, staring at the ground.

I had forgotten how beautiful she was.

"Father," she curtsies before looking back up at the man that sits on the golden throne. "What is going on..?"

"We are to go to war in six months."
