POEM STARTER

Write a poem that starts in a cheerful, bright mood, but then reveals underlying anger or bitterness.
The Monster Green
The smile is wide the eyes they beam
But all is not what it might seem
For under the surface no one knows
There is a monster deep below.
The monster shows its toothy grin
But it stays inside deep within
The heart of all who know it well
Live their lives in deepest hell.
For envy is the monster green
Often heard but seldom seen
It wants what it can never have
And things are but a little salve.
For once it has it wants something more
Something better than it had before
Something shiny something new
Something that will not make it blue.
But envy is all appetite
Nothing is ever close to right
It is a monster never content
Far from the heart it must be sent.
So if better is not enough
If you must have the better stuff
You might have a monster inside
Envy might be taking you for a ride.
