POEM STARTER
Submitted by Butterfly Queen
Write a poem that centres around one of the elements: fire, water, earth, or wind.
It could be descriptive or metaphorical.
Waves Of Time
In the woods where trees jut out sideways,
Blind men run down one by one.
I winced, but cursed at my eyesight
Despite the falls it looked like fun.
I turned to find the right route down but
All I saw were trodden pathways.
The stream was meandering down but
I couldn’t see the normal path it flowed away.
So I stumbled towards a cliff edge,
The wind pushed me like a tease.
The rocks and froth so violent there,
less so the still and peaceful sea.
But my eyes they narrowed on the rocks,
making my legs falter and fail.
The wind was howling now it pushed me like a wall.
And like the sea my mind began to swell.
You anchored me and dragged the keel
dropping me onto the sand
left with no tides left to feel
with no compass there to hand.
Now I’m swimming between the waves.
The ice surrounds, salt in my throat.
There are sirens there telling me to stay,
As I spin and cry, ignore your boat.
I want to build my own boat now.
Cause all of you are always wrong.
I’ll need a bucket it’ll have holes and leaks.
But I’m big enough and plenty strong
The bottom now is leaking bad,
But don’t worry about it,
I’ll put some strong bricks right on top,
it’ll take a while to drown it.
And the waves of time only lap at my feet
But don’t think that I can’t feel their cold
My head goes in, I can’t even speak
How young is too young to feel old?
