Evan pulls his mask off in one motion, revealing himself to Addison. A gasp is heard before a silence so profound, Evan can hear nothing but his blood rushing in his ears.

“Evan?” A nod is all he can give her in response.

“How is this possible? It’s you?”

He looks down at the ground, unsure of how to explain it all to her.

“That day, the storm, I changed.” he grounds out, feeling stupid.

“You changed? What happened?”

Evan blows out a breath while turning around, taking a second to look at the sky.

“I’m not sure, all I know is that I was struck by lightning out in the rain that night. I thought I was done, that that was it.”

“But?”

“But I woke up, and I was different.”

“You said that, but how does that make you a superhero”

“Well I can do this now,” Evan says, rushing behind her for the last word.

Addison gasps again, her hand automatically reaching for her chest, reminding Evan of the saying ‘clutching your pearls’.

“And that made you choose to become Lumière?”

Evan reaches around her and grasps her hand, leaning in to softly say “I can’t just do nothing. Not when I see what’s happening. I can’t just ignore it.”

Addison spins around and looks at Evan, face rich with an emotion he can’t comprehend. That is until she starts leaning in towards him. He pulls her gently with the wrist he is still holding, until their lips touch. A reverence fills Evan, the light feeling of warmness something he had never experienced, not even when he was struck by lightning.
