POEM STARTER
Write an Epode based on any theme you like.
An Epode is a style of poetry where each verse is two lines which differ in meter and structure, but the second line is always shorter than the first.
Epode to the Passing Shower
I wander under the silver-lacquered sky, each droplet drumming on my drifting thoughts,
gentle pulse.
Cobblestones glisten like smudged silver in the hush between storm and lull,
wet hush.
A lone gull wheels above, its cry muffled by the vaporous breath of gathering clouds,
soft cry.
I trace the rivulets racing down my sleeve, tiny rivers weaving ephemeral maps,
lost maps.
Time slows with the patter, a meditation wrought in fugitive threads of water,
pause.
When the curtain of rain lifts at last, revealing stained-glass sunbeams to the streets,
new light.
