POEM STARTER

Submitted by HardCoreWriter

Write a poem comparing a house and a home.

someone new

the walls are bare and freshly painted

the floors are shiny and slick with grease

a mothball sits behind the microwave

waiting to be smelled by someone new

the walls are now full

with paintings and pictures

and too many holes

and too many nails

the floors are dry

with a hint of dirt

or covered by dust

or by a rug or two

but the mothball

the mothball still sits behind the microwave

maybe it wasn’t waiting for someone new

maybe it was waiting to be new for someone
