WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a story with a non-chronological narrative that takes place at a wedding.

It can be in any genre, as long as the storyline is told out of chronological order. What can this add to the narrative?

Wedding Photos

"How about this one? Do you want to use it for the Scrapbook?"

Belle handed Anna a smudged black and white photo. Anna inspected it closely. It showed her grandma just after being wed in her magnificent gown, but...

"Ummm I don't think so. There is a stain on grandpa's face. Well, let's see if there is a better one."

"Like this one?"

Belle gave Anna another picture. A man in a tuxedo was standing in front of the cathedral, surrounded by groomsmen and family.

"This does not look like Grandpa"

"Okay, but this one is Grandpa, right?"

The picture was taken of the front of a limousine. Grandma and Grandpa were waving at the crowd. Flowers were thrown, doves were flying. A white ribbon was attached to the car, "just married".

"It's a weird picture though."

"Why?"

"He is wearing a sweater"

Anna squinted. Belle was right.

"Maybe he got cold"

There was silence for a while, just shuffling through the photographs.

"Oh, what's this?"

Belle had an envelope of negatives in her hand. She held them against the light:

"What's going on here?"

Anna looked over Belle's shoulder at the tiny picture. It was taken in front of the church, wedding guests were visible in the background. Grandma was slapping the man in the fancy tuxedo in the face. A woman with a crying baby was standing next to them, her mouth and eyes wide open in shock.

The next image on the film showed Grandma covering her face, a man in a knitted sweater patting her back.

Belle slowly put the negatives down.

"I don't think we can use these..."

Anna paused and then grinned.

"No, but we are absolutely keeping them"
