POEM STARTER

The Revelation

Write a poem with a structured rhyme scheme, using this as the title.

A Different Kind Of Revelation

The food is meant to make us sick. The houses are built to break.

They plant the roots deep in our ribs, then wonder why we ache?

The roads are paved for government, and our land is not ours to own.

Our taxes pay for the one percent, in a patriarchal tone..

The system is rigged to help those who are eager to help themselves.

Politically judicially and even socially as well.

In our jobs we live through hierarchy, underpaid, and undercut.

Pent against each other thinking who is better than who’s not.

Our black mirrors scream at us that the other side is evil

Blanketed by exaggeration, eager to divide, segregate the people.

Accusations, blind ignorance, make sure you really hate them…

While in a court house down the road an wealthy attacker walks away again

I was told to go to college and I would be set for life

But now I’m struggling as a student in debt as a mother and a wife

I was told to trust the system, that their Sirens sang protection.

But my cousin‘s bus stop stood bare, No red and blue, no watchful detection.

Society shrugs at the bottle and laughs at “just one more.”

While children become collateral in a silent deadly war.

My revelation should be a revolution that we the people are tired of debt.

That we have been lied to and stolen from and our system is broken in effect.

My eyes are open now, I see the truth.

Nothing here was built for me or you.

We are tools for the ones who control the roots.

so take the shears within our hands, and lets cut right through.
