WRITING OBSTACLE
Sanctuary. Elevate. Conscious.
In a story of no more than 10 lines, use these three words in any order. Try not to randomly throw them in, but think about a storyline that allows you to link them all naturally.
Lost Echo
In the quiet twilight before dawn, he entered the stony forest sanctuary, still lost within the echo of haunting remembrance. Here, far from the calamity that was his life, his thoughts could become still again, his breath could find its rhythm. Each step of his bare feet helped him relinquish the heaviness of his forgetting. His past was gone and done; his future held no anxiety. He finally found himself present as he lit a single candle and watched as its light climbed into fullness, much like his spirit seemed to stretch and rise and glow. As his heart’s flame began to elevate, a ray of audacious hope returned to him within a kaleidoscope of once-feared memories. He had come to the sacred place seeking refuge and escape but instead he felt himself awakening as he beared the hollow pain of recollection. What was behind him now was like the distant whisper of a faded dream and evaporated much like the morning mist. A new and conscious presence stirred behind his eyes — courageous, resilient, defiant in the face of his pursuers, both real and imagined. In the hush of the tabernacle, he knew for certain that he had never truly been lost.
