Late-Night Heartbreak
“I’m breaking up with you. We’re done.”
I stand in place,
as she closed her front door.
My face frozen,
like my ears hadn’t yet sent to my brain,
the words I had heard.
I walk back to my car,
and shut the door.
The information remains unprocessed,
so I started the car, and left.
I took in the sights around me,
though there wasn’t much to look at,
only the passing streetlights,
the occasional rattle from the cracks on the road…
