POEM STARTER

Write a poem centred around the theme of guardian angels.

What could this mean to different people?

My Failed Guardian

They say everyone has one, with feathers and grace,

A mythical bodyguard for this difficult place.

My angel was booked, clearly taking a break,

The moment I decided you were a mistake.

She should have swooped down with a shimmering blade,

And screamed, "Abort mission! He's just a facade!"

She should have put up a big, glowing fence,

And protected my perfectly sensible sense.

But where was the choir? The blinding white light?

When you waltzed in and ruined my perfectly fine night?

No sign of a halo, no glorious wings,

Just me, falling hard for the mess that love brings.

Turns out my protection was a little bit slow,

She only arrived when it was time for you to go.

She wasn't a stranger, or some figure divine,

That slow, burning anger? That angel was mine.

Now she’s here, she’s sassy, she’s fully awake,

She's telling me all the bad choices I make.

She wears my best leather and smells like my scorn.

The old, foolish me? That angel helped mourn.

My true guardian now? She's the voice in my head,

The one that reminds me to leave your texts read.

She’s not here for rescue; she’s here for the win.

Next time the danger walks in, she'll just lock me in.
