What We Forgot
The clock neglected
how
a single goodbye
can last a lifetime
a void never filled.
It failed to remember
how long has passed
after a loss
it could be years ago,
but
still cutting deeper than any knife
ever
could,
Stinging
ripping
tearing
our hearts
to
pieces.
The scale overlooked
the weight
of
lies
sticks
and stones
could break our bones,
but
it is the little lies
that destroy our lives.
Omitted
how much
death
can weigh
nothing, in the terms of metric
but somehow enough
to weigh our lives down
with gaps
we could
never
fill.
But
Our eyes
never noticed
the stars
tens
thousands
millions of them,
wishes to be made,
promises kept,
bright futures
all hidden
but still written
among the constellations.
Never finding
the light
in
life,
no matter how many cones or rods in our eyes,
but we still know
that they shine,
bright as a sunrise.
Remember
don’t forget
that
not
all
of
life
is
starcrossed.
